Transit Packaging Sector Demand Surges with Rise of Packaging In Manufacturing Industry

24-02-2023

Nowadays, consumers can buy and get products delivered at their doorstep through online shopping and global digitalization has made it more convenient. This has also helped large and small companies, especially manufacturers, to showcase their products and trade them overseas. Development in infrastructure has improved connectivity between countries and transportation of goods is easier than ever.

Transit packaging also referred to as transport packaging solutions plays an important role while transporting any product. It is a type of packaging that protects manufactured goods while they are being transported, which includes Intermediate bulk containers, food packing, wooden boxes, drums, wine transit packaging, and other types of packing. The goods covered by transit box packaging include items that are consumable, delicate, or tender.

What Is Transit Packaging?

It is necessary to make sure that any manufactured goods or products are delivered safely and without incident. To achieve this, transit packaging is crucial in the transportation process. Transit packaging provides sufficient damage prevention and optimizes space utilization. It is a shipping unit that provides containment and protection to goods during handling, storage, and transportation.

Transport packaging is made of different materials including films, bubble wrap, boxes, pallets or molded parts and straps and it is often accompanied by packing materials. The top priority of transport packaging solutions is always to protect your goods. Mode of transportation also needs to be considered when choosing transit packaging.

The transport packaging term includes all industrial packaging and shipping containers for consumer products. The types of transport packaging depend on the goods or materials being transported and the level of protection required. Environmental issues play a fundamental role in the selection, product design, and business practices associated with transit packaging and returnable transit packaging.

In old conventional ways, material handling, shipping, and warehousing operations associated with transit packaging have been labor-intensive, burdening personnel costs and potential for injury, accident, and product damage. However, technology advancements are giving a huge emphasis on accommodating human operators and human-operated equipment in the warehouse layout and design, which, in turn, will lead to the optimum utilization of warehouse space and overhead volume.

Types of Transit Packaging

There are three types of packaging referred to as packaging levels that are commonly recognized and are discussed below.

  1. Primary Packaging

This level of packaging contains the product. Primary packaging provides protection and containment, but is not necessarily suitable for long-distance transport. This packaging is most typically what consumers see when they purchase a product and it serves as a marketing tool as well as protection. This packaging is available in a huge variety of formats and materials to choose from.

  1. Secondary Packaging

Secondary packaging contains one or more primary packages for use during transport. It aids in containment, handling, unitization, and damage prevention. In online retail cases, this level of packaging is also used to ship directly to consumers. Some of the common types of secondary packages mainly include bags and boxes. Boxes include single-use or reusable shipping boxes, and bags can be multi-wall bags or envelopes or bulk sacks.

  1. Tertiary Packaging

It is the last level of packaging and is used to group secondary packaging together. Tertiary packaging is the traditional transport packaging used to transport bulk items to distribution and retail outlets. It also provides the function of flat unit load support in transport. Common types of tertiary packaging include pallets and skids, most commonly made of wood or plastic. These packaging can be single-use or reusable and can be rackable or nestable.

Future scope of transit packaging

The surge in trading activities along with robust demand from end-use industries requires a complete focus on transit packing & shipping management in order to accomplish safe transportation requirements. To overcome such requirements, the transit packaging industry is rapidly adapting efficient fleet management for enabling the management of track and tracking of cleaning containers, fleet sizes, and maintenance activities, in order to offer safe and effective transportation of goods. Furthermore, the growth of the e-commerce industry requires proper and safe transportation of products to maintain brand reputation and enhance customer experience.
